Peace and Reconciliation

9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)

Being a peacemaker.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, (Matthew 5:43-44)

27 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who are abusive to you. (Luke 6:27-28)

35 But love your enemies and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil people. (Luke 6:35)

Loving our enemies.

How can we love our enemies, pray for them, do good to them, lend them, expect nothing in return from them, and kill them, or at least considering it?

How do we reconcile these together?

If it is impossible, which of the two courses of action is in harmony with God’s Word and should prevail over the other?

There seems to be a conflict between self-sacrifice and self-preservation.
