Laying down his own life for his friends.

8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Loving until death.

5 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. (Ephesians 5:1-2)

8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross. (Philippians 2:8)

Humbling ourself until death.

16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers and sisters. (1 John 3:16)
