28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)
4 “Now I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed someone, has the power to throw that person into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him! (Luke 12:4-5)
Not fearing death, but fearing God.
Is fearing physical death a demonstration of our faith in eternal life with Christ and eagerness to join our Father in Heaven?
Isn’t the only thing to fear, God, and not death?
39 The one who has found his life will lose it, and the one who has lost his life on My account will find it. (Matthew 10:39)
35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. (Mark 8:35)
26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. (Luke 14:26)
33 Whoever strives to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will keep it. (Luke 17:33)
25 The one who loves his life loses it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life. (John 12:25)
Being prepared to losing our Lives.
Can we remain a disciple of Christ while preserving our earthly life at any cost?
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. (Matthew 23:37)
Being ready to die.
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sakes. (Philippians 1:21-24)
Dying in Christ is a gain.
Do we consider death as a gain or a loss?
Do we prefer life in Christ over life in this World?
8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; 11 if somehow I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians 3:8-11)
Accepting to lose anything to be with Christ.
1 Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4)
Keeping seeking the things above.
